One-Year Anniversary

This blog is about to have it's first birthday! So we should find some episodes of "MacGyver" on Netflix and eat a Snickers to celebrate. Or something...

Anyway, it's been a year full of changes. Graduated high school, moved off to college, survived the first semester, traveled to a couple different states(Now been to 12 of 50), learned to juggle, and figured out how to play mandolin.

This was the first post: http://anotherloveroftheblade.blogspot.com/2012/02/this-is-my-favorite-book-in-all-world.html
I have included some odd lists, and there's been plenty of random quotes and literary references sprinkled in often. Probably more American Idol recaps than anyone really cared about, but...oh well.
Not as many thoughts on Bible passages as I'd expected, but maybe that can be fixed coming up, thinking of going through one of the books verse-by-verse.

And if you were wondering how the blog got its' name... http://anotherloveroftheblade.blogspot.com/2012/02/so.html

Michael Jordan turned 50 last Sunday, so there was lots of reflections written about the man and his legacy. He had one goal: To be the best. At everything. And he mostly succeeded. The greatest basketball player of all time, and a fascinating man to study.

Today is the 33rd anniversary of The Miracle on Ice, which a lot of people consider one of the greatest sports moments of all time, right up there with The Immaculate Reception. Definitely one of the most influential moments in sports history, it's one of those stories you always love hearing about over and over again. (Never have seen the movie...wonder if it's any good.) I've never really understood what, exactly, it is that makes hockey such an interesting sport, but it is. Always kind of enjoyed it, I think the Mighty Ducks movies had something to do with it, and Wayne Gretzky. Sort of like soccer on ice...always wished I knew how to skate really well, looks like fun to play.

Only about ten weeks until this semester is over...yay. (So why does each day crawl by?)

Well, this makes the 111th post, that's about one every three days, or basically about the same rate as I was doing for newspapers. A few people read it, and hopefully they've liked it, brightened people's day. And it does give me a good excuse to keep on writing.

Racing from One Task to the Next...Always Two Steps Behind

The title of this post is pretty much what life has been like for the last month.

Homework, more homework, various writing assignments, computer class homework, math, more math, more computer assignments...it's nearly impossible to stay on top of everything, it's like I'm an Australian Shepherd trying to herd everything in sight. And it's just really hard to stay motivated to study...

The Super Bowl was a few weeks ago, got to thinking about some of the odd places I've watched them over the years: In a church nursery on a portable TV powered by jumper cables, in a deserted college office while Dad worked overtime, or in a temporarily-powerless doublewide trailer with the TV hooked up to a generator. And add to that a complete stranger's house with a family I know.
Ryan and Shelly had asked if I wanted to watch the game with them, thought it seemed like a good idea. The church had a mini-Super Bowl after the service, the Ravens won that game 49-35. A Raven, I had one catch for about 13 yards, made three tackles and threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to seal the game. From there, hung out at the house for a bit, then everybody packed up for Ryan's parents' house for a Super Bowl party kind of thing. About twenty people were there, there was a lot of food. That was a bizarre game. A 108-yard yard kickoff return? The power going out? A missed two-point conversion and intentional safety? It was great, though. Older Brothers Rule!
Played Bananagrams(Scrabble without a board, basically) during halftime, that was pretty fun. Who plans these Super Bowl halftime shows? Bruce Springsteen? Prince? Madonna? The Rolling Stones? Beyonce? Really..? How about they get fired and replaced by the person in charge of the Cowboys' Thanksgiving halftime shows instead, then we'd have Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney or Keith Urban.

Visited home for the weekend, that was good. Got some much-needed sarcasm from the family and dog time, and hot showers! Good to be at GBC, hung out with Josh, Dylan and Marie, that was nice.

Taught my aunt how to play mandolin Monday night, that was really entertaining and fun. She was So Excited!!!!! Had to call everybody she knew, so we played "You Are My Sunshine" and "Amazing Grace" probably fifteen or twenty times each. Mandolins are happy instruments.

Somehow got a 95 on last week's math test, which is crazy...

Raining a lot this week....the campus was temporarily moved to Seattle...

Guess I've got some plans for spring break now, signed up to help for a few days at a homeless shelter in a southwest Missouri town called Carthage(home to the Precious Moments park/chapel, by the way.)

Did I mention there's a lot of homework this semester?
