15th and One

I'd like to collapse and do nothing for a while, is that allowed? Oh, not yet? Well, okay...

The last couple days have been really busy, but productive, so that's good, I guess. Like I mentioned last week, we went to the square dance at the Ruscos on Black Friday, I barely danced, though. Just couldn't get into it for some reason. Which was disappointing, cause I wanted to...it's like doing something for the talent share at camp. So I mostly just watched and talked to Dylan, that was cool. Caleb hadn't ever danced before, but he really enjoyed it. And Courtney had a blast, of course. Trevor was having fun playing spies with Dylan's brother Cole.

Monday was frustrating, but it ended. And my laptop seems to be working fine now, so I guess it probably was just an NSU problem. Tuesday was Dr. Eversole's birthday, so all of us as an editing class threw together a surprise party for her; complete with chips, cake, pop, signs and a pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey, and then we all signed a card. It worked, and it went well. After we'd all gotten some cake and got back our homework, we looked over the confusing phrases and mistakes, and then we try to work out the next few days' schedule. Dr. Eversole says, "Alyssa and Wes, you two have the highest grades in class. Do we need to be here Thursday?" We look at each other, a quick, decisive head-shake. "Nope." "Don't think so." "Okay, then. We've gone over everything we can cover, so pack up your things and we'll call it a semester."
Prof. Semrow gave us a super-easy project as our final and handed back our analogies; we turned in our haiku and began work on limericks. Finished the psych quiz, glad to get that out of the way. Had lunch with Susan, and even found time in the afternoon to play a bit of guitar on the porch  My glasses kept falling off my face, which was a hindrance I never expected to interrupt playing. (Side note to self....Play music over Christmas break! You need the practice.)
After dinner studied the first chapter of Ephesians with Zach. After Paul's greetings, in verse 3 he begins talking about the greatness of God, the wonders of his grace and Christ's work. As part of that work, some were saved by predestination, and we were given the Holy Spirit, the third part of the trinity. From verse 15 to the end of the chapter, Paul then goes on about how he's been praying for the Christ-followers in Ephesus, and in doing so explains not only what the Ephesian believers(and all believers, really) should be seeking to grow in, but also how we can be praying for each other, that we will grow in those areas.
Blasted Garth Brooks and Kenny Chesney on the CD player all afternoon, that was nice to study by. (Also other CDs listened to this week: early Audio Adrenaline, Rhett Akins, FFH, Brad Paisley and Bon Jovi.)
Went for a walk about 8 p.m. to look at the lights on Seminary and downtown, wandered by the CCF house, dropped in. They were having their end-of-semester thing, there was one of those tacky gift exchanges, where you can choose something from the pile in the middle or steal from someone. I swiped a basket of junk out of somebody's garage from Connor, his confused first response was "Really?" (I wanted the old glass Coke bottles, awesome (and FREE) dorm decorations. ) When it was over, he comes up and says "THANK YOU for taking that stuff!" (I came close to getting a copy of To Kill A Mockingbird last year, but it was swiped at the last minute. There weren't any books this year, so it was a pretty easy choice.) And they might be sending a group back to the Missouri homeless shelter over spring break, which would be good.

Scored a 49 out of 50 for the psych quiz, happy about that. Turned in my nutrition final project, not sure at all how that will be. But the class is almost over, so that's nice. The Latin final Monday shouldn't be too bad.
Took a nap for about an hour this afternoon, didn't sleep too well. Fireworks kept going off, and other stressful things that I can't remember now.
The skating rink set up downtown in Norris Park was having an NSU Night of free skating for students, so naturally I went down there and skated for about two hours. Don't get to do it very often, being in Oklahoma, and for sure not enough to be as good as I'd like, but it's always enjoyable. Saw a ton of people I knew, mostly former classmates, but also neighbors and BCM people.
Made me think of those times we'd go to Winterfest by the BOK as a youth group, those were fun times. I guess that tradition started about six years ago. Doesn't sound like it when you just say it, but then when you think about the events that can happen in people's lives and the cast changes as people come and go, it's a while. Courtney said they're planning to go again this year sometime, I think.
Thinking of those skatings made me think of the game nights, which were wild at times and entertaining. And the murder mysteries....now, those were awesome. And the movie nights, dissecting the worldview and storyline afterwards, those were great, too.

(This post is an odd title, isn't it? But it refers to the weeks left of the semester, I wrote a post called "First and Fifteen" a couple months ago, liked the symmetry of a inverted title.)
